Nottingham Forest Eye £45m Second Bid for Tottenham's Bergvall

Nottingham Forest are preparing a second offer of £45 million for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lucas Bergvall, after the north London club rejected an initial bid of £38 million last week.
According to BBC Sport, the 20-year-old Sweden international is keen on the move to the City Ground. Bergvall found first-team minutes hard to come by towards the end of last season under Tottenham boss Roberto de Zerbi, and was frequently played out of his preferred number six role.
Glasner's measured hint
New Forest manager Oliver Glasner addressed transfer activity at his first press conference on Thursday without directly naming Bergvall. The Austrian was candid about his personality: "I have one strength and weakness, it's impatience. Sometimes it's a strength, sometimes it's a weakness."
Glasner added that circumstances were delaying arrivals rather than a lack of intent: "Of course, I would have hoped they already trained with us on the other side. It's impossible because the players we're now talking to they play at the World Cup so are still on vacation. I'm pretty convinced we will have a few players joining us in Portugal."
Bergvall's Spurs career so far
Bergvall moved to Tottenham Hotspur in 2024 from Swedish side Djurgarden and quickly made his mark, earning the club's player of the year award after his debut Premier League campaign. That season also saw Tottenham end a 17-year trophy drought by lifting the UEFA Europa League.
In April 2025, he committed to the club by signing a contract extension through 2031. He featured in 33 matches last season, though two months were lost to ankle surgery. Bergvall has accumulated 14 caps for Sweden and appeared at the World Cup, where his side fell to France in the last 32.
Forest's broader transfer picture
The pursuit of Bergvall comes against a backdrop of rebuilding in midfield following Elliot Anderson's record transfer to Manchester City. Forest are understood to be seeking at least one additional midfielder alongside Bergvall.
However, the club will not replicate last summer's sweeping 13-player, £180 million recruitment drive. The focus this window is on targeted quality rather than volume. A goalkeeper is required to provide cover for Matz Sels and John Victor, and a striker is also on the wishlist to share the burden with Chris Wood — who turns 35 in December — and Igor Jesus.
