NPFL Introduces Friday Night Football as Euromatch Reshapes Matchday Schedule

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) is set to shake up its fixtures with the introduction of Friday night, early Saturday, and Sunday kick-offs — a move designed to broaden the league's appeal and deliver a richer matchday experience for supporters across the country.
Friday night opener in Ibadan
The new scheduling era kicks off with the Matchday 9 clash between Shooting Stars and Ranchers Bees at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan, on Friday, October 16. Kick-off is set for 6pm.
It will be the second time this season that Shooting Stars host an NPFL fixture on a Friday night. Their first such occasion ended in a 2-1 win over Inter Lagos on the opening matchday, a result that gave the Ibadan side a positive precedent heading into this latest evening encounter.
A new dimension for the NPFL
The shift away from the league's traditional weekend afternoon schedule is expected to create greater variety for supporters, broadcasters, and commercial partners. Friday prime-time football offers fans the chance to enjoy top-flight action outside the standard weekend routine, with organisers hoping the new slots will drive higher attendance and stronger engagement at stadiums.
Early Saturday and Sunday kick-offs will be rolled out progressively as the season continues, giving the NPFL a more diversified fixture calendar. The changes bring the league's matchday presentation closer to the scheduling models adopted by some of the world's leading football competitions.
Lekan Salami set to come alive
For Shooting Stars, the Matchday 9 fixture against Ranchers Bees represents another chance to showcase the atmosphere that Friday night football can generate at the historic Lekan Salami Stadium. The Ibadan faithful are expected to pack the terraces for what should be a compelling evening of NPFL action.
The restructured schedule forms part of the broader Euromatch partnership, which has already delivered significant investment into NPFL clubs, including a first tranche of the $7.5 million sponsorship package committed to the league.
