NPFL Issues Warning to Barau FC Over Home Match Security Failures

2 hours ago·1 min

The Nigeria Premier Football League has officially put Barau FC on notice, issuing a formal warning over repeated security lapses observed during the club's home matches.

In a statement signed by Chief Operating Officer Dr. Ayo Abdulrahaman, the NPFL revealed it had obtained a video circulating on social media that showed Barau FC stewards stepping onto the pitch following the club's Matchday 10 clash against Kwara United FC. The league characterised the incident as a serious security concern, warning that unchecked behaviour of this kind could escalate into a significant breach.

Stewards must stay in the terraces

The NPFL was unambiguous about the role of club stewards: their designated post is the terraces, where they are responsible for crowd management and maintaining order among supporters. Operating in restricted zones or entering the field of play is strictly prohibited.

The league made clear that host clubs bear full responsibility for the conduct of their stewards, and that Barau FC will face sanctions should a similar incident occur at any subsequent home fixture.

Immediate action demanded

The NPFL called on Barau FC's management to act without delay — addressing the identified failings and ensuring full compliance with the league's security regulations ahead of all future home games.
