Onuachu Wins Turkish Süper Lig Goal of the Season to Cap Sensational Debut Campaign

5 days ago·2 min

Paul Onuachu has capped a remarkable debut season in Turkey by claiming the Turkish Süper Lig Goal of the Season award, adding another individual honour to what has been an extraordinary campaign for the Trabzonspor forward.

The goal that stole the show

The winning strike came in Trabzonspor's 4-2 victory over Fatih Karagümrük last September — a breathtaking scissor-kick that Onuachu executed with stunning precision in mid-air. The finish had already earned the Goal of the Month award for September, and its crowning as the season's finest goal came as little surprise to anyone who witnessed it.

Despite his imposing physical stature, Onuachu displayed extraordinary agility and technique to connect cleanly with the ball and produce an acrobatic finish that drew widespread acclaim across Turkey. He beat Fenerbahçe midfielder Marco Asensio and Beşiktaş' Orkun Kökçü to claim the individual prize.

A debut season for the ages

Onuachu joined Trabzonspor last summer from Sky Bet Championship side Southampton, and his impact was immediate and emphatic. The Nigeria international finished the 2025/26 Turkish Süper Lig season as joint-top scorer, netting 22 goals to share the Golden Boot with İstanbul Başakşehir forward Eldor Shomurodov.

In doing so, Onuachu became only the sixth player in Trabzonspor's history to finish a league season as the club's top scorer — a distinction that places him firmly in the club's folklore. Across all competitions, the towering striker contributed 26 goals and two assists in 43 appearances, cementing his status as one of Turkish football's most dangerous forwards.

Cup glory seals a historic campaign

Trabzonspor's season reached its peak with a Turkish Cup triumph — the club's record-extending 10th — secured with a 2-1 victory over Konyaspor in a thrilling final. Onuachu was the decisive figure on the night, scoring both goals to deliver the silverware and underline how central he had become to the Black Sea Storm's ambitions.

Fellow Nigerians Chibuike Nwaiwu and Anthony Nwakaeme were also part of the victorious squad, ensuring the night carried a special resonance for Nigerian football fans celebrating Trabzonspor's historic achievement.
