Onyedika Misses Belgian Super Cup as Transfer to Eintracht Frankfurt Edges Closer

Club Brugge have confirmed that Raphael Onyedika will play no part in the Belgian Super Cup fixture against Union St.Gilloise after falling ill, with the Nigerian midfielder's future at the club looking increasingly uncertain.

The Belgian Pro League champions announced their 22-man squad on their official website, with Onyedika notably absent due to his illness.

Frankfurt deal edges closer

The 25-year-old is reported to be on the verge of leaving Club Brugge this summer, with Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt the frontrunners to sign him. He has already agreed personal terms with the German side, and Frankfurt are now said to be in advanced negotiations with Club Brugge over a transfer fee of around €10 million.

Onyedika's contract at the Belgian club has just one year remaining, adding urgency to a deal this transfer window.

A decorated spell at Blauw-Zwart

The Nigeria international leaves a strong legacy at Club Brugge should the move materialise. He was a key figure in the club's Belgian Pro League title win last season — his second league championship since arriving at the club. During his time with Blauw-Zwart, Onyedika has also collected the Belgian Cup and the Belgian Super Cup once each.
