Osimhen Fires Galatasaray Past Former Club Lille in Champions League Comeback
Victor Osimhen struck to help Galatasaray seal a dramatic 4-2 comeback victory over his former club Lille on Wednesday, claiming the Turkish champions' first win of the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League phase.
Galatasaray were at their sharpest from the opening whistle — Yunus Akgun put them ahead inside two minutes to set a breathless pace.
Lille turn the tie around
Lille refused to be rattled and hit back through Soriba Diaoune, who was in inspired form. Diaoune struck in the 8th minute to equalise, then added a second in the 39th minute to give the French side a 2-1 lead.
Galatasaray clawed their way back before the break when Aleksei Batrakov converted an Aleksei Batrakov finish — assisted by Roland Sallai — in the 44th minute to make it 2-2 at the interval.
Osimhen seals the comeback
The Turkish side took control early in the second half. Nabil Bentaleb's own goal on 52' handed Galatasaray a 3-2 lead, and Osimhen made the result safe in the 61st minute with the fourth goal — a moment that carried extra meaning as he netted against the club where he built his European reputation.
The win lifts Galatasaray off the mark in the Champions League phase and signals a return to form for Osimhen, who has been one of the most dangerous strikers on the continent since his rise to prominence in France.
