Senegal have appointed Patrick Vieira as their new head coach, the federation confirmed on Tuesday. The Dakar-born France legend steps into the role following the departure of Pape Thiaw.

Vieira, a World Cup and European Championship winner with France, captained Arsenal during one of the club's most celebrated eras and is widely regarded as one of the greatest midfielders of his generation. His return to Senegal — the country of his birth — marks a significant moment for African football.

The 48-year-old brings extensive coaching experience, having previously managed Crystal Palace, Nice, and New York City FC. He now takes charge of a Senegal side that won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2022 and remain one of the continent's most formidable forces.
