Pierre Sage Takes Charge as Crystal Palace Begin Premier League 2026/27 at Everton

Crystal Palace begin the 2026/27 Premier League season with a trip to Everton's Hill Dickinson Stadium on the opening weekend, as new manager Pierre Sage takes charge of his first competitive fixture since replacing Oliver Glasner this summer.

A new era for Crystal Palace

Sage, 47, arrives at Selhurst Park with a strong pedigree — last season he guided Lens to second place in Ligue 1 and delivered the club's first-ever Coupe de France title. He inherits a Palace squad that enjoyed a remarkable two-year run under Glasner, winning the FA Cup, the Conference League, and the Community Shield.

The challenge now is sustaining that momentum. The Eagles have been busy in the transfer market this summer, bringing in Real Salt Lake forward Zavier Gozo and Union Saint-Gilloise winger Anan Khalaili, while also welcoming Everton's Dwight McNeil in the deal that sent Brennan Johnson the other way. The loss of centre-back Maxence Lacroix, sold to Chelsea, is a concern some observers have flagged ahead of the new campaign.

Everton looking to kick on after near-miss

In the opposite corner, David Moyes — a manager with 754 Premier League appearances to his name — begins yet another season at Goodison's successor, aiming to improve on a 13th-place finish in 2025/26.

It was a campaign of two halves for the Toffees: they were still in contention for a Champions League place as late as March before a run of seven winless matches ended any European hopes and left them with a fifth consecutive bottom-half finish.

Moyes has moved to strengthen his squad, signing Freiburg attacking midfielder Merlin Rohl, Arsenal title-winner Christian Norgaard, and Middlesbrough's Hayden Hackney — named Championship player of the season last term. Those arrivals join an existing core that includes England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, defender Jarrad Branthwaite, midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, and forward Iliman Ndiaye.

Johnson, who completed his move from Crystal Palace just last week, could face his former club on the opening day — adding an extra subplot to what promises to be an intriguing start to the season. Kick-off at the Hill Dickinson Stadium is at 3:00pm BST.
