PSG Dismantle Barcelona 4-2 in Champions League Classic at Parc des Princes

Paris Saint-Germain inflicted a first defeat of the season on Barcelona, running out 4-2 winners in a breathtaking UEFA Champions League encounter at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday.

The match was an instant classic — 40 attempts on goal across 90 minutes — as the reigning European champions proved too resolute for Hansi Flick's side, who had been unbeaten in their previous 11 outings this campaign.

Goals galore in a see-saw contest

Désiré Doué broke the deadlock in the 38th minute after capitalising on a Lamine Yamal error, only for substitute Xavi Espart to level matters for Barcelona in the 55th minute. The two sides traded blows in a relentless second half.

Lucas Hernandez restored PSG's advantage with a powerful header from a set piece in the 72nd minute, but Yamal — anonymous for much of the night — silenced his critics with a ferocious strike from a tight angle in the 79th minute to draw Barcelona level for the second time.

The equaliser lasted mere seconds. Vitinha stepped forward and fired beyond the Barcelona goalkeeper from the edge of the box in the 81st minute, swinging the momentum decisively in PSG's favour.

Fabián Ruiz Peña sealed the victory five minutes later, tapping home to make it 4-2 and confirm Barcelona's first loss in 12 competitive matches this season.

What this means for both sides

For PSG, the result underlines their credentials as genuine contenders to defend the European crown. Their clinical finishing — after squandering a host of first-half chances — ultimately proved the difference against a Barcelona side that refused to lie down.

The defeat arrives at a particularly uncomfortable moment for Barcelona, who face Real Madrid in the first El Clásico of the LaLiga season just five days from now. Flick will need to regroup quickly if his side are to arrive at that fixture with confidence intact.

Both sides created enough opportunities to have won the match comfortably, but it was PSG's efficiency in the game's closing stages that proved decisive in a contest that will be remembered long after the final whistle.
