PSG Stun Manchester City 4-2 at the Etihad to End Their Winning Streak
Paris Saint-Germain delivered a dominant display at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday, beating Manchester City 4-2 in matchday 2 of the UEFA Champions League to bring an end to City's eight-match winning run across all competitions.
The visitors wasted no time making their intentions clear. Desire Doue opened the scoring in the 13th minute, and Ousmane Dembele doubled the advantage just two minutes later. Vitinha then piled on the misery for Enzo Maresca's side, completing a devastating first-half treble for Paris Saint-Germain in the 32nd minute to leave City trailing 3-0 at the break.
Haaland makes history but City fall short
Manchester City emerged from the tunnel with greater purpose after the interval. Erling Haaland pulled one back in the 53rd minute — a goal that made him Manchester City's all-time leading scorer in the UEFA Champions League, surpassing the record previously held at the club.
Paris Saint-Germain responded almost immediately, however. Maghnes Akliouche restored the three-goal cushion in the 63rd minute, effectively snuffing out any hopes of a City comeback.
Haaland scored again with 15 minutes remaining to make it 4-2, giving the scoreline a more respectable look for the hosts, but it was not enough to threaten the Parisians. Former Manchester City forward Ferran Torres had the chance to seal it from the penalty spot in the 90th minute, only for his effort to be saved.
The result ends a run that had seen City win eight consecutive matches since their 3-0 Community Shield defeat to Arsenal. Paris Saint-Germain, meanwhile, head into the next round of fixtures with momentum firmly behind them.
