Carlos Queiroz has refused to entertain any suggestion that he should step down as Ghana head coach, arguing that his departure would do nothing to resolve the structural problems at the heart of Ghanaian football — a position he held firm after a stunning 4-2 defeat to The Gambia in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The Black Stars had appeared to be cruising following a commanding 2-0 first-half advantage, with Ernest Nuamah and Felix Afena-Gyan both on the scoresheet. What followed was a dramatic and painful collapse that left Ghana on back-to-back defeats in their qualifying group.

Queiroz on resignation calls

Speaking to Joy Sports at a tense post-match press conference, Queiroz acknowledged that resignation tends to be the default response when results turn sour, but he rejected it as a shallow solution. He apologised to supporters for the manner of the defeat and called on the squad to refocus ahead of upcoming double-header fixtures against Somalia.
