Quinten Timber to Miss Netherlands' World Cup Clash With Sweden After Training Concussion

Netherlands midfielder Quinten Timber will sit out his side's second FIFA World Cup 2026 group-stage fixture against Sweden on Saturday, after suffering a mild concussion during training on Thursday.
The incident took place during the closed-door section of the session at the Kansas City Current's pitch — beyond the view of journalists, who were only permitted to watch the opening 15 minutes of practice.
A difficult week for the Timber family
The injury arrives on the back of a tough period for Timber, who celebrated his 25th birthday on Thursday. He had entered the Netherlands' opening match against Japan as a substitute, but will now be unavailable for the Sweden encounter.
The Olympique Marseille midfielder is also carrying the weight of his twin brother Jurriën's absence from the tournament. The Arsenal defender had joined the Dutch squad during preparations but withdrew before the friendly against Uzbekistan in New York, ruling him out of the final competition entirely.
Netherlands prepare to move to Houston
The Dutch are set to hold one final training session at their Kansas City base on Friday morning before travelling south to Houston in the afternoon. A press conference at the match stadium is scheduled for Friday evening ahead of Saturday's group clash.
