Rangers Close In on Super Eagles Defender Ryan Alebiosu

7 hours ago·1 min

Rangers are in advanced talks to sign Blackburn Rovers right-back Ryan Alebiosu, with the Scottish Premiership club making significant progress towards securing the Nigeria international this summer.

The Ibrox side entered the market for a new right-back after James Tavernier left the club at the end of last season, and Alebiosu has emerged as their primary target.

A standout season at Blackburn

Alebiosu, 24, delivered an impressive campaign for Blackburn Rovers in the Sky Bet Championship last season following his move from Belgian Pro League club Kortrijk. He scored one goal and contributed five assists across 41 league appearances.

Blackburn reportedly turned down an approach from Serie A side Genoa during the January transfer window, determined to hold onto the defender until the end of the campaign.

Summer transfer battle brewing

Rovers are now prepared to sanction a sale this summer, with a fee of between £3 million and £5 million understood to be their asking price, according to reports by Sportsboom.

West Ham and Genoa remain interested in Alebiosu, but Rangers are considered favourites to land him. The Glasgow club are expected to agree personal terms with the player in the coming days.

A successful move to Ibrox would see Alebiosu link up with Super Eagles teammate Emmanuel Fernandez. The defender is no stranger to Scottish football, having previously played in the Scottish Premiership for St Mirren.
