Three clubs — Nigeria's Rangers International, Zimbabwe's Scottland FC, and Sudan's Al Hilal Omdurman — all recorded 2-0 first-leg victories in the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League 2026/27 Second Preliminary Round on Sunday, placing each side in a commanding position ahead of their respective return fixtures.

Ten-man Rangers grind out victory over MC Alger

Rangers International produced a resilient display at the MKO Abiola Sports Complex in Abeokuta to beat Algeria's MC Alger 2-0, despite losing a player to a red card as early as the 13th minute. Coach Fidelis Ilechukwu was forced to reorganise his side almost immediately, yet the Nigerian club refused to be broken down.

The match remained goalless at the break, with neither side able to find the net in a tense first half. MC Alger were themselves reduced to ten men in the 52nd minute when their number 23 was dismissed, levelling the numerical balance. Tensions on the touchline spilled over when an MC Alger official was sent from the technical area in the 70th minute.

Rangers eventually found a way through from the penalty spot in the 83rd minute, and James Emo sealed the victory with a second goal four minutes later. The Nigerian club now travel to Algeria on 23 October needing to protect that two-goal cushion to reach the group stage.

Billiat and Musona inspire Scottland past Petro Atlético

Scottland FC enjoyed a comfortable afternoon in Harare against Angola's Petro Atlético, who had a player sent off in just the 2nd minute and were forced to play almost the entire match with ten men. Despite that numerical advantage, the hosts could not force a breakthrough in the first half.

The deadlock was broken in the 67th minute when Khama Billiat — the veteran Zimbabwe forward — opened the scoring. Knowledge Musona then added a second in the 80th minute, completing a 2-0 result that gives Scottland a firm lead heading into the second leg in Angola.

Petro Atlético now face a substantial challenge to overturn the deficit and keep their continental ambitions alive.

Al Hilal capitalise on early own goal to down Sidama Bunna

Al Hilal Omdurman made an excellent start away in Ethiopia, with Sidama Bunna conceding an own goal in the 11th minute to hand the Sudanese club an early advantage. The Ethiopian side were unable to respond before half-time, and Al Hilal held firm throughout the second half.

Mohamed Abdelrahman wrapped up the scoring with a goal in the 90th minute, securing a 2-0 away win that puts Al Hilal in a strong position ahead of the return leg. Sidama Bunna must now overturn a two-goal deficit to remain in the competition.
