Rangers Sign Hull's Ivor Pandur in Goalkeeper Overhaul

Rangers have completed the signing of Croatia squad goalkeeper Ivor Pandur from Hull City for an undisclosed fee, bringing in a shot-stopper who was instrumental in helping the Yorkshire club win promotion to the Premier League last season.
Pandur, 26, has put pen to paper on a four-year contract at Ibrox, arriving fresh from international duty with Croatia at the World Cup. He made 48 appearances for Hull last term — keeping 14 clean sheets and recording 150 saves at a save percentage of 69.8% — as Sergej Jakirovic's side finished sixth in the Championship before securing top-flight football through the play-offs.
A goalkeeper built around shot-stopping
Pandur began his career at Croatian club Rijeka, making his professional debut at the age of 19. That form earned him a move to Serie A with Hellas Verona, where he saved two penalties on his debut in a Coppa Italia match against Venezia. He made 11 appearances for Verona before a loan move — later made permanent — to Fortuna Sittard in the Netherlands in 2022.
Only six months into a four-year deal in the Dutch top flight, Pandur was sold to Hull City in January 2024. It took eight months for him to claim the starting berth at the MKM Stadium, but once established, he became a key figure. He featured in 45 of Hull's 46 Championship matches last season, becoming only the fourth goalkeeper in history to keep clean sheets in both play-off semi-finals and the final.
His strengths lie firmly in shot-stopping, though he has been noted as less comfortable playing out from the back — a modern requirement that may attract scrutiny at Ibrox.
Butland heading to Hull
The arrival of Pandur is expected to trigger the departure of current Rangers number one Jack Butland, who is reportedly on his way to Hull City. Butland, 33, joined Rangers from Crystal Palace in October 2023 and has made 157 appearances for the club. The former England international, who earned the last of his nine caps in 2018, produced slightly stronger statistical returns last season — 12 clean sheets in 38 games, a save percentage of 70.7%, 104 saves, and four penalty saves compared to Pandur's two.
With Butland's expected exit, Pandur will compete with Liam Kelly — himself part of the Scotland squad at the World Cup — for the starting position between the sticks at Ibrox.
Rangers were able to secure Pandur in part because Hull City were under pressure to offload players to address a £6 million Profit and Sustainability Rules deficit and avoid a potential points deduction.
