Rashford Set to Stay at Manchester United After Positive Contract Talks

1 hour ago·2 min

Marcus Rashford could be on his way back to Manchester United's first-team fold this summer, with talks between the forward's representatives and the club producing encouraging signs ahead of the new season.

Rashford spent last season on loan at Barcelona, where he contributed 14 goals in 49 appearances across all competitions and helped the club claim both La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup. Despite looking keen to extend his time at the Nou Camp, that possibility has now all but disappeared.

Gordon signing shuts Barca door

Barcelona's move for Anthony Gordon — signed from Newcastle for £69 million — effectively ended any realistic prospect of Rashford remaining in Catalonia on a permanent basis, pushing both parties back towards a reconciliation at Old Trafford.

New United manager Michael Carrick is reported by the Manchester Evening News to be open to reintegrating Rashford into his squad. The groundwork for a return has already been laid, with the 28-year-old England forward confirmed as part of the first-team setup for pre-season. He is expected to feature in some of United's six pre-season friendlies.

A third loan ruled out

Manchester United are understood to be firmly against sanctioning a third consecutive loan move for Rashford. Although interest from Premier League clubs is anticipated, Rashford is reported to prefer honouring the remaining two years of his contract at Old Trafford rather than seeking a fresh exit.

Transfer plans could shift

United had been monitoring Iliman Ndiaye of Everton and West Ham United's Crysencio Summerville as potential left-sided reinforcements this summer. However, if Rashford commits to the club, those targets may no longer be necessary — freeing up funds that could instead be directed towards the midfield.

That need in the middle of the park has become more pressing after Manuel Ugarte suffered a serious knee injury while representing Uruguay against Spain at the World Cup, ruling him out for the majority of next season.
