Real Madrid Election Heats Up as Riquelme Promises Haaland and Rodri, Pérez Confirms Mourinho

2 days ago·1 min

Two candidates vying for the Real Madrid presidency made sweeping campaign pledges on Wednesday, with Enrique Riquelme vowing to bring Erling Haaland and Rodri to the club, while incumbent Florentino Pérez confirmed that José Mourinho would return as head coach should he win Sunday's vote.

Madrid's members will cast their ballots on Sunday in the club's first contested election since 2006, choosing between Riquelme — a renewable energy entrepreneur aged 37 — and Pérez, 79, who has presided over the club for 23 of the last 26 years. The vote arrives after two consecutive trophy-less seasons at the Bernabéu.

Riquelme's bold transfer pledge

Appearing on the popular Antena 3 programme El Hormiguero, Riquelme went further than any previous pledge, promising to personally guarantee members' subscription costs should he fail to land either Manchester City star.
