Real Madrid Sign Bernardo Silva on Free Transfer as Mourinho Era Takes Shape

10 hours ago·1 min

Real Madrid have secured the signature of Bernardo Silva on a free transfer, with the Portuguese midfielder's nine-year contract at Manchester City having expired at the end of last season.

Silva, 31, has put pen to paper on a two-year deal at the LaLiga giants, bringing one of European football's most decorated recent careers at City to a close after a trophy-laden stint that saw him become a cornerstone of Pep Guardiola's side.

The arrival of Silva forms part of a broader reshaping of the Madrid squad under manager Jose Mourinho, who returned to the club and has moved swiftly in the transfer market. Marc Cucurella, the Chelsea left-back, has already joined, and the club extended the contract of centre-back Antonio Rudiger following Mourinho's reappointment.

Silva's capture on a free represents significant business for Real Madrid, who add an experienced, technically gifted midfielder without paying a transfer fee.
