Rice, Guehi, and James Return to Training as England Gear Up for Norway Quarter-Final

1 hour ago·1 min

England received a significant boost on Friday when Declan Rice, Marc Guehi, and Reece James all returned to training ahead of Saturday's FIFA World Cup 2026 quarter-final against Norway in Miami.

Rice had been sidelined from group activities since Monday's last-16 victory in Mexico due to illness, while Guehi raised alarm bells when he was absent from Thursday's training session in Kansas City with a hamstring concern. Both players, however, were fully involved in Friday's session and are in contention to start the match.

James also participated, though his involvement remains carefully managed following his own hamstring problem. It marked his first appearance in team training in nearly three weeks, and he is not expected to be available from the outset this weekend.

Henderson out, Quansah suspended

The only notable absentee from the 26-man squad's session was Jordan Henderson, who fractured his wrist and arm during the celebrations that followed the win over Mexico. Jarell Quansah is also unavailable, serving the first match of a two-game ban earned by his red card in the last-16 tie.

Beckham visits Inter Miami training base

England trained at the facilities of Inter Miami — the club co-owned by Sir David Beckham — and Beckham himself made a visit to the squad during the session.

Carragher warns against complacency

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher predicted a narrow 2-1 England win but urged Thomas Tuchel's side to approach Norway with caution. Carragher reserved particular praise for Erling Haaland, describing the Manchester City striker as destined to be remembered as the greatest goalscorer of all time.

Yet Carragher stressed that Norway are far more than a one-man team.
