Rodri to Decide Manchester City Future After World Cup

4 days ago·1 min

Rodri has confirmed he will put any decision about his Manchester City future on hold until after the World Cup, as speculation over a potential move to Real Madrid continues to swirl.

The Spain midfielder has just one year remaining on his contract at City and has spoken in the past about his desire to return to his home country at some point in his career.

"With a World Cup ahead, my responsibility is to stay focused," Rodri said at a news conference. "Anything related to my future will wait until after the World Cup."

Real Madrid connection

The 29-year-old has been identified as a transfer target in connection with Real Madrid presidential candidate Enrique Riquelme, who is challenging incumbent president Florentino Perez in this weekend's election.

Rodri, however, appears untroubled by the noise surrounding his name. "I'm very calm, I know exactly where I stand," he said, adding that he would not "give too much importance" to transfer rumours, describing them as "part of the job."

"When a player is approaching the final stage of his contract, it's normal for names to be mentioned," he explained. "I'll tell you that perhaps if there hadn't been a World Cup, things might be different now."

A decorated City career

Rodri joined Manchester City from Atletico Madrid in 2019 and has been central to the club's most successful era, contributing to four Premier League title wins and one UEFA Champions League triumph.

He claimed the Ballon d'Or in 2024, though his season was disrupted by a cruciate ligament tear suffered in September of that year, forcing him to miss an extended spell of action.
