Romano and Plettenberg Trade Blows Over Yan Diomande to Real Madrid Reports

Two of football's most prominent transfer journalists have clashed publicly over reporting on Ivory Coast midfielder Yan Diomande's rumoured move to Real Madrid, in a social media row that laid bare the fierce rivalries simmering beneath the surface of the transfer news industry.

Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg opened the hostilities by questioning whether a full agreement between RB Leipzig and Real Madrid had actually been reached. Writing on X, he argued that a confirmed fee would already be publicly known if a genuine deal were in place — and pointed out that RB Leipzig, Real Madrid, and the player's camp had all continued to deny any such agreement existed.

Plettenberg also challenged reports that Manchester City had submitted a €100 million bid for Diomande, a claim he suggested had no basis in fact, given that City had reportedly been out of the running for days.
