Ronaldo Hit With 30-Day Ban and Fine After Portugal Camp Walkout

Cristiano Ronaldo has received a 30-day suspension and a fine of £215 from the Portuguese Football Association following his abrupt departure from Portugal's national team training camp last month.
The five-time Ballon d'Or winner walked out of the squad's base in Copenhagen on the eve of a UEFA Nations League fixture against Denmark — a match in which he had not been included in the starting lineup and was left as an unused substitute in the previous game.
A falling-out with Jorge Jesus
At the heart of the incident was a significant breakdown in the relationship between Ronaldo and Portugal's new head coach Jorge Jesus. Ronaldo publicly accused Jesus of breaking his word on two separate occasions regarding the captain's role within the squad. Jesus denied ever making any such promise.
The 41-year-old subsequently published a lengthy open letter explaining the sequence of events that led to his decision to leave the camp, and made a pointed request: he asked the Portuguese FA to apply no leniency in whatever punishment they chose to hand down. He wanted to be held accountable.
What comes next
Portugal's next Nations League fixture takes place on November 14, when they face Denmark — the same opponent Ronaldo had abandoned camp ahead of. It remains to be seen what role, if any, he will play as that match approaches.
