Tensions had been building since Sunday, when the six-time Ballon d'Or winner was left as an unused substitute during Portugal's Nations League victory over Norway — a decision that raised eyebrows given Ronaldo's status as captain. Jesus had previously served as Ronaldo's club coach at Al Nassr.

Jesus moved to dismiss the story at his press conference on Wednesday, declaring that "there was no incident whatsoever" and claiming Ronaldo would return to training alongside the rest of the squad.
