Sabri Lamouchi Sacked as Tunisia Manager After Heavy Sweden Defeat at World Cup 2026

Tunisia have parted ways with head coach Sabri Lamouchi just hours after a 5-1 loss to Sweden at FIFA World Cup 2026, making him the first managerial casualty of the tournament.

According to a talkSPORT report citing journalist Romain Molina, an official announcement is expected imminently. Wahbi Khazri is set to take charge as interim coach for the rest of the competition.

A hammering that proved too costly

Sweden, managed by Graham Potter, were devastating at Estadio Monterrey. Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyokeres were among the scorers as Tunisia were dismantled in what proved to be one of day four's most one-sided results.

The defeat was not an isolated stumble. Lamouchi, appointed only in January, oversaw two defeats in Tunisia's pre-tournament friendlies — including a 5-0 thrashing by Belgium. Tunisia's sole win in 2026 came in March, a narrow 1-0 victory over Haiti.

After the final whistle against Sweden, Lamouchi reflected on the damage.
