Saka in Individual Training as England Eye Ghana Clash

2 hours ago·1 min

Bukayo Saka trained separately from the rest of the England squad on Saturday as Thomas Tuchel's side continued preparations for their World Cup Group L encounter with Ghana in Boston on Tuesday (21:00 BST).

The Arsenal winger worked indoors on an individual programme, continuing to manage an Achilles tendinitis issue that has been with him since March. He was the sole absentee from group training, with all other 25 members of England's 26-man squad out on the pitch at Swope Soccer Village in Kansas City alongside Tuchel.

The session drew an unusual audience — baseball teams the KC Royals and St Louis Cardinals, who had faced each other on Friday night, were among those watching on.

Managed through the group stage

Saka made an impact from the bench in England's opening game, a 4-2 victory over Croatia on Wednesday. Coming on as a substitute, he provided the assist for Marcus Rashford's goal — England's fourth of the evening.

Tuchel has been candid about his plans for the 24-year-old. Before the tournament began, the head coach indicated that Saka would need to be carefully managed during the early rounds. He has since suggested that Saka is unlikely to be handed a starting berth until England's final Group L match against Panama in New Jersey on Saturday, 27 June (22:00 BST).
