Mohamed Salah has called on Egypt to keep making history at the FIFA World Cup 2026 after the Pharaohs ended a 92-year wait for a victory at football's biggest stage.

Egypt defeated New Zealand 3-1 at BC Place Vancouver in a result that marked their first World Cup win since their tournament debut 92 years and 25 days ago. The victory sent Egypt to the top of Group G with four points from two matches.

How the goals came

New Zealand drew first blood when Finn Surman powered a header from a corner into the net in the 15th minute, giving the All Whites a deserved lead.

Egypt levelled through Zico, who met a free header two minutes before the hour mark to restore parity. Salah then put the Pharaohs in front for the first time, guiding a crisp, low finish into the net following a fine team move.

Trezeguet wrapped up the win with Egypt's third goal eight minutes from time, completing a memorable evening for Hossam Hassan's side.

Salah's emotional reaction

Egypt's captain was visibly moved after the final whistle and struggled to find the right words to capture the moment.
