The Confederation of African Football has officially confirmed Samson Adamu as its substantive General Secretary, marking a landmark moment in the organisation's history. Adamu becomes the first Nigerian to hold the position in CAF's 70-year existence.
The Nigerian football administrator had been serving in an acting capacity since Sunday, March 29, 2026, when he stepped up following the resignation of Véron Mosengo-Omba, the Swiss-Congolese official who previously held the role.
Before his elevation to acting General Secretary, Adamu had built a substantial career within CAF, holding senior roles including Director of Competitions and Director of Tournaments and Events.
Adamu is the son of Amosu Adamu, a former member of the FIFA Executive Committee, and his appointment cements the family's long-standing connection to the upper echelons of football administration.
NFF celebrates the milestone
The Nigeria Football Federation extended its congratulations to Adamu, hailing the appointment as a significant moment for Nigerian football on the continental stage.
Acting NFF General Secretary Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme was effusive in his praise.
