Jadon Sancho, now a free agent after his Manchester United contract expired six weeks ago, is believed to prefer a move to a club outside England — even as several Premier League sides have already made him offers.

The 25-year-old winger is taking his time to weigh up all available options, though a return to continental football appears to be his preference. Borussia Dortmund, the club where Sancho made 158 appearances across two separate spells, are reported to be among those tracking his situation.

From Dortmund to United and back?

Sancho originally joined Manchester United from Borussia Dortmund in 2021 in a deal worth £73 million. His time at Old Trafford proved turbulent, and in recent seasons he was sent out on loan rather than feature for United's first team.

During the 2024-25 season, Sancho was loaned to Chelsea, for whom he made 41 appearances. The agreement included an obligation-to-buy clause, but Chelsea opted to pay a £5 million penalty fee to send him back to Manchester United at the end of the campaign.

A season of European football at Villa Park

Prior to his time at Chelsea, Sancho spent a season on loan at Aston Villa under manager Unai Emery, contributing 39 appearances. That was a memorable campaign for the club — Aston Villa secured UEFA Champions League qualification and enjoyed UEFA Europa League glory, with Sancho coming off the bench in their victory over Freiburg. It was his third European final appearance in three successive seasons.

Keeping sharp at Flixton

With no club to report to ahead of the new season, Sancho has been maintaining his fitness by training with non-league side Flixton. The England attacker remains open to all possibilities, though those close to him suggest a fresh start abroad is his favoured path.
