Nigeria's Super Eagles may have fallen to a 2-1 defeat against Portugal in Wednesday's international friendly at the Estádio Dr. Magalhães Pessoa in Leiria, but left-back Zaidu Sanusi insists there is plenty for the squad to be proud of.
The three-time African champions produced a markedly improved display against the Selecao compared to their previous encounter, which ended in a humbling 4-0 loss. Nigeria pushed Portugal hard throughout the first half, generating a series of threatening chances and causing repeated problems for the host defence with their movement and attacking intent.
Sanusi's glowing verdict
Sanusi, who plays his club football for Primeira Liga champions FC Porto, was generous in his assessment when speaking to Portuguese outlet O Jogo. The 28-year-old acknowledged the challenge Portugal presented while highlighting the visible progress Nigeria have made.
