Sergio Ramos Eyes Shock La Liga Return With Getafe Eyeing Reunion

1 hour ago·2 min

Sergio Ramos, the 40-year-old former Real Madrid captain, is being linked with a remarkable comeback to Spanish football, with La Liga side Getafe understood to be exploring a move for the veteran defender.

Getafe president Angel Torres has confirmed that talks have taken place with Rene Ramos, the player's brother and representative, describing the veteran's name as firmly on the club's list — though he stressed that any transfer would need the blessing of manager Jose Bordalas.

What Torres said

"It's a topic that we've been chasing for a long time," Torres told reporters. "But it was not the priority. Now, we have that position well covered. It's not a position that, right now, needs reinforcement. The manager wanted reinforcement in other positions. But it's not too late yet. I mean, it's on the list for the future."

Torres added that Getafe would be willing to study the signing if circumstances were favourable, hinting that a move could be revisited in 2027 depending on the club's needs.

A reunion with Carvajal

Should a deal materialise, Ramos would link up once more with Dani Carvajal, the former Real Madrid right-back who joined Getafe earlier this window on a contract running until June 2027. The two spent years together at Real Madrid, making a potential reunion at the Coliseum a sentimental one.

Ramos has been without a club since December 2025, when his spell with Mexican side Monterrey came to an end. His final appearance in professional football arrived in the Apertura Playoffs semi-final, a 3-2 defeat to Toluca in which Ramos converted a penalty.

Getafe's situation

The timing of any potential move is shaped by Getafe's difficult start to the season. The Madrid-based club sit 15th in the La Liga standings after collecting just eight points from eight matches. Torres' comments suggest that a prolonged poor run of results could fast-track interest in Ramos as a defensive remedy.

For now, the door is open — but the veteran's return to La Liga depends as much on Getafe's fortunes as on the willingness of all parties to make it happen.
