Simba SC Demolish 15 de Agosto 6-1 to Put One Foot in CAF Champions League Group Stage

1 hour ago·2 min

Simba SC delivered a statement performance on the road, dismantling Equatorial Guinea's 15 de Agosto 6-1 in the first leg of their TotalEnergies CAF Champions League second preliminary round tie on Wednesday. The Tanzanian giants now carry a commanding five-goal lead into the return fixture.

Ibrahim Doumbia was the standout performer, netting twice, while Nathaniel Chilambo, Elie Mpanzu, Keletso Makgalwa, and Anicet Oura each added their names to the scoresheet in a ruthless away display.

Slow start, devastating finish

Chilambo broke the deadlock in the 43rd minute, giving Simba a narrow 1-0 advantage at the break. What followed in the second half was a masterclass in clinical finishing.

Mpanzu doubled the lead in the 56th minute, and Doumbia made it three just nine minutes later, putting the Tanzanian side firmly in control of the tie.

Makgalwa extended the advantage to 4-0 in the 72nd minute before Oura drilled in a fifth in the 82nd. Doumbia wrapped up his brace — and Simba's sixth — in the 88th minute to complete a stunning display.

15 de Agosto managed a consolation in the opening minute of stoppage time, but it did nothing to soften the scale of the defeat on home soil.

A mountain to climb for 15 de Agosto

Simba's second-half surge produced five goals in 32 minutes, underlining the East African club's attacking depth and quality. Their opponents now face the near-impossible task of overturning a five-goal deficit in the return leg.

For Simba, the result puts a place in the group stage of Africa's premier club competition firmly within their grasp. The return leg at home is all but a formality — barring an extraordinary collapse.
