Singida Black Stars and Durban City Claim First-Leg Advantages in CAF Confederation Cup

Two East and Southern African clubs laid down markers in the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup 2026/27 Second Preliminary Round on Sunday, with Singida Black Stars and Durban City both winning their first-leg ties to take commanding positions ahead of the return fixtures.
Singida Black Stars silence Tusker in Nairobi
Tanzania's Singida Black Stars claimed a 1-0 away victory over Kenya's Tusker FC, courtesy of a 52nd-minute strike from Jeancy Mboma that proved to be the match's only goal.
Mboma's effort, arriving seven minutes into the second half, gave the Tanzanian visitors the lead in this East African derby and Singida Black Stars held firm for the remainder of the contest, denying Tusker any route back into the game.
The result places Singida Black Stars in an enviable position heading into the second leg on Tanzanian soil. Tusker now face the challenge of overturning a one-goal deficit away from home if they are to keep their TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup ambitions alive.
Durban City overwhelm Port Louis at home
In South Africa, Durban City put on a convincing display to defeat AS Port Louis 2000 of Mauritius 3-1, establishing a two-goal cushion ahead of next weekend's return leg in Mauritius.
Haashim Domingo opened the scoring in the 15th minute, converting after Alou Doumbia had redirected Siphamandla Ncanana's cross back into the danger area. Gaston Sirino doubled the advantage almost immediately after the restart, finishing from a tight angle in the 46th minute.
Louis Roussety pulled one back for Port Louis in the 53rd minute, capitalising on an error by goalkeeper Frederic Asare to give the visitors a foothold in the tie. The response briefly unsettled Durban City, and Jean Lubumba was unable to restore the two-goal margin when he missed from close range late on.
Substitute Tashreeq Morris ultimately put the result beyond doubt, converting a stoppage-time penalty after a foul in the area to make it 3-1 and hand Durban City a commanding lead to take to Mauritius.
Port Louis now require a three-goal swing in the return fixture to progress, while Durban City will be targeting a place among the final 16 clubs in the competition.
