Slot Turns Down Fulham Approach After Liverpool Exit

1 hour ago·1 min

Arne Slot has turned down the chance to take over as manager of Fulham, according to talkSPORT, opting not to return to the Premier League in the immediate aftermath of his Liverpool departure.

Slot was dismissed by Liverpool last week — just one year after leading the club to the Premier League title — with Andoni Iraola announced as his replacement on Thursday. Dutch football journalist Marcel van der Kraan told talkSPORT that Slot was surprised by Liverpool's decision, though he reportedly harbours no ill-feeling toward the club.

Fulham's search for a new manager

Fulham are searching for a new head coach following the departure of Marco Silva, who is set to take charge at Benfica. The club turned their attention to Slot, but the Dutchman declined the opportunity to move to west London.

Kieran McKenna, currently in charge at Ipswich Town, has emerged as a candidate for the role, with talkSPORT reporting earlier this week that he is interested in the Fulham position. McKenna's contract at Ipswich includes an £8 million release clause, a fee that was inserted following the club's promotion to the Premier League.

Thomas Frank, who previously managed both Brentford and Tottenham Hotspur, was also considered a potential option. However, Frank has effectively removed himself from contention, stating he will not take on a new job this summer.

What's next for Slot?

Since leaving Liverpool, Slot has been linked with a move to AC Milan. Reports now suggest he could be considering a step into international management rather than returning to club football in the near future.
