South Korea president Lee Jae-myung has formally demanded a government investigation into the national team's dismal showing at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, after the side crashed out in the group stage.
South Korea finished their campaign with two defeats and one victory, falling behind Mexico and South Africa in the standings. The exit was particularly striking given that South Korea are ranked 32nd by FIFA — above South Africa, who sit 60th — while Mexico hold 15th place.
The team had entered the tournament with hopes of advancing as one of the best third-placed sides, but those hopes were extinguished on Saturday, sparking a fierce backlash at home.
