The match was scoreless through 90 minutes, with both sides unable to find the net in a tightly contested affair. Torres broke the deadlock in the 106th minute, sending the Spanish faithful into delirium and bringing the curtain down on one of football's most memorable tournaments.

Historic double for Spanish football

Spain's triumph makes them the first nation ever to hold the FIFA World Cup and the FIFA Women's World Cup trophies at the same time — a landmark moment for football across both the men's and women's games.

The achievement caps a dominant tournament run for La Roja, who were imperious throughout the first-ever 48-team, 104-match edition of the competition, co-hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

Spain sweep the individual awards

The post-match ceremony underlined Spain's dominance across the tournament. Midfielder Rodri claimed the adidas Golden Ball Award as the competition's outstanding player, while goalkeeper Unai Simón was honoured with the adidas Golden Glove Award. Defender Pau Cubarsí added to the Spanish haul by winning the Young Player Award presented by Aramco.

A record-breaking tournament

The 23rd edition of the FIFA World Cup shattered attendance records, drawing a staggering 6,810,966 fans across its 16 venues — the highest total in the competition's history. Over the 39-day festival of football, supporters witnessed 308 goals, as the sport united billions across the globe.

The Topps Final Halftime Show, produced by Global Citizen and curated by Chris Martin, brought spectacle to the occasion. Co-headlined by Madonna, Shakira, BTS, and Justin Bieber, the show also featured Burna Boy, Gustavo Dudamel, the New York Philharmonic, and the PS 22 Chorus alongside Coldplay.
