Spain Dismantle France 2-0 to Reach First World Cup Final Since 2010
Spain delivered a commanding display to beat France 2-0 in the FIFA World Cup 2026 semifinal on Tuesday, booking their place in the final for the first time since lifting the trophy in 2010.
Mikel Oyarzabal broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute from the penalty spot after Lucas Digne brought down Lamine Yamal inside the box. Pedro Porro then doubled Spain's advantage on 58 minutes, completing the win with a sharp finish after a neat one-two with Dani Olmo before driving into the area.
Saliba injury disrupts France
France's night grew more difficult when Arsenal defender William Saliba was forced off through injury early in the match, disrupting Didier Deschamps' defensive structure before his side had found their footing.
Les Bleus responded with greater intensity after the interval, pressing for an equaliser, but it was Spain who struck next. Porro's 58th-minute goal ended any realistic prospect of a French comeback.
Lamine Yamal appeared to cap the performance with what would have been a third goal — a superb curling effort — but the effort was ruled out for offside.
History between the sides
This was only the second meeting between Spain and France at the World Cup. France won the previous encounter 3-1 in the round of 16 at the 2006 tournament in Germany. Heading into Tuesday's match, Spain had won their last two encounters against France across all competitions and extended that run emphatically.
Spain will now contest the FIFA World Cup 2026 final, chasing a fifth world title — and a second in 16 years.
