Spurs Claim First Premier League Win of the Season, Edging Coventry 3-1
Tottenham Hotspur ended a seven-match wait for their first Premier League victory of the season, beating Coventry 3-1 on Monday night — a result that lifts Roberto De Zerbi's side off the bottom of the table and into 16th place on six points.
Nigeria internationals Taiwo Awoniyi and Frank Onyeka were introduced from the bench in the 60th minute for Coventry but were unable to prevent their side from falling to defeat.
Maddison sets the tone
The night belonged, in its opening act, to James Maddison, who marked his first start in 526 days with a stunning 14th-minute strike. The former Coventry academy player curled a first-time effort from outside the box into the top corner, with Mohammed Kudus providing the assist.
Coventry drew level just four minutes into the second half, punishing slack Spurs defending to restore parity.
Marmoush and Davies seal it
The equaliser proved short-lived. Omar Marmoush, in only his second league appearance for the club, restored Tottenham Hotspur's advantage in the 58th minute with a curling effort from the edge of the area — his first goal in a Spurs shirt.
Ben Davies then put the match beyond doubt in the 96th minute, finishing with his left foot to complete a 3-1 scoreline.
De Zerbi's Marbella dividend
The victory is the first in the Premier League for De Zerbi since he took charge at Tottenham Hotspur, and it follows a warm-weather training camp the squad spent in Marbella last week. Coventry, who also sit on six points, are one place below Spurs in 17th.
