Beninese top-flight side Buffles du Borgou have brought in Nigerian coach Stanley Eguma as their new head coach, ahead of the 2026/27 season. The appointment marks the first time Eguma has taken a coaching role outside Nigeria.

Eguma arrives in Parakou with an impressive résumé built across many years in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), where he is regarded as one of the most accomplished managers the league has produced.

A record of titles and longevity

His most celebrated achievement came at Rivers United, whom he guided to the NPFL title during the 2021/22 season. He spent eight years at the Port Harcourt club — a tenure that made him the league's longest-serving head coach during that period.

Beyond Rivers United, Eguma also served as a former assistant coach of Nigeria's U-23 Eagles and later took charge of Enyimba, the nine-time NPFL champions, before departing under difficult circumstances following a suspension over poor results.

The holder of a CAF A Licence, Eguma now turns his attention to reviving fortunes at Buffles du Borgou, who finished fifth in the Benin Premier League last season — a modest return for a club with such a storied history.

One of Benin Republic's most decorated clubs

Founded in 1976, Buffles du Borgou are among the most successful clubs in Benin Republic. The Parakou-based outfit have won the Benin Ligue 1 title five times, the Benin Cup three times, and the Benin Super Cup once, underlining the ambition that comes with the appointment of an experienced foreign coach.

The club will be hoping Eguma's winning pedigree and tactical experience can propel them back into contention for domestic honours when the 2026/27 campaign gets underway.
