Nigeria's Super Eagles mounted a stirring comeback to defeat Madagascar 2-1 in their opening Group L fixture of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, played in Uyo on Friday.

The match marked an outstanding start to international careers for two debutants. George Ilenikhena and Moses Usor both found the net to power the Super Eagles past their opponents after falling behind early in the contest.

Debut goals turn the tide

Neither Ilenikhena nor Usor had previously featured for the senior national side, making their contributions all the more remarkable. The two players stepped onto the pitch for the first time in Eagles colours and delivered when it mattered most, helping Nigeria overturn a one-goal deficit.

Madagascar had drawn first blood to put the Super Eagles under early pressure at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium. Nigeria's response, however, was emphatic — the team rallied to score twice and claim all three points from the Group L opener.
