Super Eagles Goalkeeper Obasogie Handed Bendel Insurance Captaincy

Bendel Insurance have named goalkeeper Amas Obasogie as their new captain ahead of the 2026/27 Nigeria Professional Football League season, with veteran striker Kayode Oke appointed as vice-captain.
Obasogie, 26, returned to the Benin Arsenals for a second stint earlier this year after a period abroad that included a spell with Tanzanian Premier League side Singida Black Stars. His first stint at the club was particularly productive — he made 33 league appearances during the 2023/24 campaign and impressed consistently enough to earn a call-up to the Super Eagles.
The club's management have now rewarded Obasogie's experience, leadership qualities, and understanding of the club's environment by handing him the armband. Head coach Kennedy Boboye is expected to lean on the goalkeeper's exposure at both domestic and international levels as Bendel Insurance look to build momentum throughout the season.
Oke, a reliable attacking presence for the Benin Arsenals, steps into the vice-captaincy role and will form a key part of the team's leadership structure alongside Obasogie.
Bendel Insurance, former President Federation Cup champions, have made an uneven start to the new NPFL campaign — claiming one win and suffering one defeat in their opening two fixtures. The club will be counting on the new leadership pair to steady the ship and push for stronger results as the season unfolds.
