Super Eagles Midfielder Kelechi Nwakali Announces Engagement to Chidera

Nigeria Super Eagles midfielder Kelechi Nwakali has shared joyful news off the pitch, announcing his engagement to his long-time partner, Chidera.
Nwakali revealed the milestone on his social media pages, posting intimate photographs from the proposal. In one image, Chidera is pictured wearing an engagement ring as the couple celebrated the moment together.
A career built on early promise
Nwakali's football journey began at Diamond Football Academy in Umuahia. He rose to continental prominence as captain of Nigeria's Golden Eaglets, leading the side to victory at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile in 2015. He was awarded the tournament's Golden Ball as its most valuable player.
That breakout tournament earned him a move to Arsenal, where he came through the academy setup before going out on loan in the Netherlands. He subsequently represented clubs in Portugal and Spain as he sought consistent senior football.
At international level, Nwakali has featured across Nigeria's age-group sides — the U-17, U-20, and U-23 teams — before earning caps for the senior Super Eagles.
Turbulent spell at Barnsley
Nwakali's stint at Barnsley F.C. has been marked by contrasting fortunes. The midfielder signed a three-year deal with the English club but struggled to maintain fitness and consistent form throughout his time there.
Disciplinary problems compounded his difficulties, including a delayed return from his post-season break. As a result, he was excluded from the squad and placed on the transfer list, leaving his future at the club uncertain.
