Nigeria's Super Eagles have retained their 26th place in the latest FIFA Men's World Ranking, released on Monday, but slipped one position to fourth among African nations after Egypt surged past them in the continental standings.

Eric Chelle's side have been inactive since suffering a 2-1 defeat to former European champions Portugal in an international friendly in June, a period of inactivity that has now cost them their third-place standing on the continent.

Egypt's World Cup run rewards them

Egypt's rise to third in Africa comes on the back of a strong FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign. The Pharaohs advanced to the Round of 16 before bowing out in a narrow 3-2 loss to eventual runners-up Argentina — a result that earned them significant ranking points.

Morocco lead the continent

Morocco remain Africa's top-ranked nation, occupying sixth place globally. The Atlas Lions, who reached the quarter-finals of the World Cup, gained one spot in the world rankings while firmly holding onto their position as the continent's standard-bearers.

Senegal continue to sit second in Africa, though they dropped three places in the global standings. Algeria round out the continent's top five, sliding one place down the global list.

Spain reclaim the summit

At the top of the world rankings, newly crowned FIFA World Cup champions Spain reclaimed the No. 1 position. Argentina dropped to second following their runners-up finish, with France, England, and Brazil completing the world's top five.
