Sutton Calls for Guehi and Konsa to Start Ahead of Stones Against Ghana

1 hour ago·1 min

Former Chelsea striker Chris Sutton has urged England manager Thomas Tuchel to drop John Stones from the starting lineup for the team's crucial FIFA World Cup 2026 Group L fixture against Ghana on Tuesday.

Speaking on BBC Sport, Sutton argued that the debate around England's center-back selection has been framed incorrectly. Rather than debating whether Marc Guéhi or Ezri Konsa should earn a place alongside Stones, Sutton believes both younger defenders should start together — at the veteran's expense.

Sutton's case for Guehi and Konsa

The former striker contended that Guéhi and Konsa are better equipped than Stones to handle one-on-one situations against Ghana's rapid, high-quality forwards.
