Tottenham Sign Marcos Senesi on a Free Transfer from Bournemouth

last week·2 min

Tottenham Hotspur have secured the signing of defender Marcos Senesi on a free transfer, following his exit from Bournemouth. The deal will be officially completed on 1 July, pending international clearance.

Senesi, 29, had spent four years at Bournemouth before deciding to leave earlier this season after turning down three separate contract renewal offers from the club. The Argentine centre-back — capped three times by Argentina — was not selected for the national team's World Cup squad this summer.

Speaking on his arrival at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Senesi described joining the 2025 Europa League winners as a "very special feeling."

"From the first moment, the club has shown why they want me and how much they want me to be a part of what they are building. It's exciting and something I can't wait to be involved in," he said.

The centre-back also spoke of his ambitions at the club. "Every time I step on the pitch, I will do my best to make the fans proud and to take the club back to the place it belongs. I want to win things with Tottenham and will do everything I can to make that happen," he added.

Senesi becomes Tottenham's second signing of the summer, joining on the same free-transfer basis as Andy Robertson, who arrived from Liverpool earlier in the window. The former San Lorenzo and Feyenoord man will wear the number five shirt.

De Zerbi's defensive reinforcement

Manager Roberto de Zerbi confirmed that Senesi will strengthen the defensive unit after two consecutive 17th-placed Premier League finishes.

"He's comfortable playing in a possession-based team, reads the game very well and has the personality to thrive in a demanding environment. I also love his mentality and desire to keep improving and I'm looking forward to working with him and seeing the big contribution he can make to the team," said De Zerbi.
