Tottenham Turn Down Sunderland's Loan Bid for Kevin Danso

1 hour ago·1 min

Tottenham Hotspur have turned down a loan approach from Sunderland for centre-back Kevin Danso, leaving the Austrian defender's immediate future uncertain.

Sunderland had requested a season-long loan move for the 27-year-old, but Tottenham declined the offer. Whether the Championship club will renew their pursuit of Danso remains to be seen.

Limited opportunities at Spurs

Danso's chances of regular first-team football at Tottenham look restricted this season. The arrivals of central defenders Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke have strengthened the back line, while Micky van de Ven — who recently signed a new contract — has been named club captain.

The Austrian did make an appearance in Wednesday's Carabao Cup victory over Charlton, coming on as a second-half substitute — a rare outing that underlines how far down the pecking order he currently sits.

Background on the Danso deal

Danso initially joined Tottenham on loan from Lens in January 2025 before the club made the transfer permanent later that year, paying the French side £20.9 million. He has made 37 appearances for Spurs in total.
