Trump Praises FIFA After Balogun's Red Card Suspension Lifted Ahead of Belgium Clash

1 hour ago·1 min

United States president Donald Trump took to social media on Sunday to thank FIFA after its disciplinary committee suspended the red card shown to striker Folarin Balogun, clearing him to feature in the USA's FIFA World Cup 2026 round of 16 fixture against Belgium.

Balogun had received a straight red card during the USA's 2-0 round of 32 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina for a foul on defender Tarik Muharemovic. The dismissal carried an automatic one-match ban that multiple FIFA officials had indicated to The Athletic was not subject to appeal.

Yet on Sunday — just 24 hours before the United States face Belgium at Lumen Field in Seattle — The Athletic reported that Balogun would be available, a development FIFA subsequently confirmed in an official statement.
