Tuchel Blasts England Despite World Cup Semi-Final Spot After Norway Scare

1 hour ago·1 min

Thomas Tuchel made clear he was far from satisfied with England's display in their hard-fought 2-1 extra-time victory over Norway in the FIFA World Cup 2026 quarter-finals — a win that booked the Three Lions a place in just their third World Cup semi-final since 1966.

Norway, who had eliminated Brazil in the previous round, proved stubborn opponents. Andreas Schjelderup broke the deadlock with a cross that curled directly into the net, and the Scandinavians came close to doubling their lead when Alexander Sorloth spurned the chance to square to an unmarked Erling Haaland on the counter-attack.

England made Norway pay for that missed opportunity through Jude Bellingham, who cut past his marker and finished clinically with his left foot to level the tie.

Bellingham strikes again in extra time

The match was forced into extra time, where Bellingham once again emerged as the decisive figure. The No. 10 reacted fastest to a parry off a long-range effort from Morgan Rogers, stabbing home the winner to seal England's progression.

It was Bellingham's sixth goal in as many games at this World Cup — a tournament he has dominated, including a brace in the previous round against Mexico.

Tuchel pulls no punches

Despite the result, Tuchel was blunt in his assessment when speaking to ITV after the final whistle. The England manager acknowledged his side had benefited from good fortune, with Norway also having a goal disallowed and striking the woodwork during a performance that stretched England to their limits.
