Thomas Tuchel has revealed that England are yet to receive any explanation from FIFA regarding the decision to upgrade Jarell Quansah's one-game ban to two games following his red card against Mexico at the FIFA World Cup 2026.

Quansah was dismissed in the early stages of the second half at the Azteca after a VAR review confirmed he had made an ankle-high challenge on Jesus Gallardo. While a standard red card of that nature would ordinarily result in a one-match suspension, FIFA deemed the challenge to constitute serious foul play and doubled the ban.

There had been speculation that Tuchel's strongly worded post-match criticism of match officials may have influenced the length of the suspension. Tuchel pushed back on that notion, while acknowledging his side had been given no reasoning whatsoever.
