Tunisia Sack Lamouchi After 5-1 World Cup Thrashing by Sweden

3 hours ago·1 min

Tunisia have parted ways with head coach Sabri Lamouchi following a 5-1 hammering at the hands of Sweden in their opening FIFA World Cup 2026 group stage fixture, according to reports.

The Eagles of Carthage were overwhelmed by the Swedes on Sunday night, with the result prompting the Tunisia Football Federation to act without delay and remove Lamouchi from his post.

Kebaier returns on interim basis

Former head coach Mondher Kebaier is set to take over the side on an interim basis for the remainder of the tournament, offering the squad some continuity from a familiar face.

Tunisia's next opportunity to salvage their campaign comes against Japan in their Group Stage match on Sunday, June 21.

A tenure defined by struggle

Lamouchi was handed the head coach role in January 2026, but his brief spell in charge proved deeply troubled. Across four matches, the Eagles of Carthage managed a single goal while conceding 11.

His tenure opened with a goalless draw against Canada before back-to-back defeats — a 1-0 loss to Austria and a 5-0 thrashing by Belgium — set the tone. The capitulation against Sweden ultimately sealed his fate.
