The United States have clinched first place in World Cup Group D following a dramatic result elsewhere — Paraguay defeated Turkey 1-0 despite being reduced to ten men for more than half of the contest.

Paraguay's victory, achieved while a player down, handed the United States the group lead and secured their status as the top-ranked side heading into the knockout rounds.
